Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts Finance Manager

Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts is a nonprofit health, education and creative arts organization that serves individuals, families and communities affected by cancer and other serious illnesses. We are currently looking for a professional Finance Manager for a wonderful, growing non-profit.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• BA in finance or equivalent degree required
• Three-five years experience in a senior Financial Management role
• Five-ten years of experience in increasingly responsible positions encompassing a broad range of managerial roles
• Experience with, and/or understanding of, the special requirements of non-profit accounting
• Demonstrated management skills in budgeting, financial planning, and analysis
• Superior leadership, management, organization, and interpersonal skills
• Strong team player orientation
• Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills
• Direct and open communication is a must
• Self-starter with outstanding initiative and responsibility
• Superior time management skills and demonstrated capacity to work in a fast paced, growing organization
• Impeccable attention to detail
• Excellent creative, strategic, and problem solving skills
• Advanced computer skills (Quickbooks for Nonprofits, Word and Excel are a must, File Maker is a plus)
• MacIntosh proficiency is a plus
• Friendly, outgoing and positive attitude

• Knowledge of cancer, arts & healthcare, and integrative healthcare a plus

Duties to include:

Strategy, Planning and Analysis:
• As a member of the management team, assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and organization’s long-term strategy and assist team in establishing yearly objectives
• Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan and manage annual budget process
• Oversee the maintenance of regular financial planning reports; monthly profit and loss forecast by class and overall (vs. budget); monthly 13 month cash flow forecast; monthly investment and asset updates

Financial Management:
• Advise management team on financial matters, assessing and explaining long and short-term implications for the organization of alternatives and decisions
• Maintain adequate internal controls and financial procedures ensuring legal and regulatory compliance
• Supervise bookkeeper/ensure adequate staffing is in place to support financial management responsibilities
• Assist with training staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters
• Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for the management team, board of directors, finance committee, federal and state funders, foundations, donors, public officials, and grantors (including grant reports and proposals)
• Oversee preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements
• Ensure timeliness and accuracy of all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and all grant, program, and overhead cost allocations (Including calculation accrued employee benefits)
• Oversee all essential financial functions including: Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable; monitoring budget vs. actual; weekly cash management; approving weekly payables; executing check signing; vendor and invoice negotiation when appropriate; monitoring bank balances and activities; maintaining all banking relationships; and overseeing cash, investment, and asset management
• Manage preparation and support for accountant’s annual audit and filing of tax returns
• With Executive Director, monitor organization’s cash flow to meet organization’s needs
